Undergrads, are you ready to amp up for Amplify 2025?
We are back for the 2nd Edition of our undergraduate physics symposium for Black and mixed Black students in the UK!
This year, we've made it bigger and better to give you more opportunities to connect with Black physicists from across the UK, build your networks and generally vibe!
OUR MISSION
We know that doing a physics degree can be challenging, so we have created this space for undergraduates to form connections, explore their shared experiences as Black physicists and feel empowered for their next steps.
WHAT, WHERE & WHEN?
Amplify 2025 will be a two day residential event hosted by us at The University of Southampton on Wednesday 3rd to Thursday 4th September 2025.
Day one will begin in the afternoon:
- First, meet the other students and put your heads together for a problem solving challenge and icebreaker.
- Then, join us at the evening reception to relax, socialise and network with members of The Blackett Lab Family.
Day two will include:
- An inspiring keynote lecture delivered by a leading Black physicist.
- A blend of interactive sessions on the latest research in Physics, career options and more!
- A delicious lunch featuring tasty Afro-Caribbean cuisine!

ACCOMMODATION & TRAVEL BURSARIES
Accommodation will be covered by us! There are also bursaries available to support your travel costs to Southampton. Full details on the registration form.
Am I eligible?
We recognise the fact that people of Black-heritage are severely underrepresented amongst those studying and working in physics and physics-related fields. Therefore, we encourage you to apply if you are:
- An undergraduate physics student in the UK of Black or mixed-Black heritage
- Going into 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th (Scotland) year of a physics degree at a UK university
